Subramanian Swamy stays mum on GST

On Wednesday, the Rajya Sabha passed Goods and Services Tax Bill formally known as The Constitution (One Hundred and Twenty-Second Amendment) Bill, 2014.

Narendra Modi on Facebook and Twitter thanked all the members of Rajya Sabha for their decision to give India an indirect tax system. Narendra Modi also said, “This reform will promote ‘Make in India’, help exports & thus boost employment while providing enhanced revenue.”

BJP’s Member of Parliament, Subramanian Swamy said today that he would abstain from making a remark on the merit of the legislation. The reasoning he gave for the same was because of a conflict between his scholarly commitment to economics and loyalty to the party.

“I am silent because there is conflict between my scholarly commitment to economics and my loyalty to the party’s decided issues”, says Swamy

Earlier today, Subramanian Swamy tweeted, “Has any PT studied in the proposed GST Constitutional Amendment what is the scope and role of GSTN?”

Dr. Swamy used PT as short for “Patriotic Tweeple” and GSTN for “Goods and Services Tax Network.”
