Strong Earthquake of magnitude 6.7 hits near Taiwan

An earthquake of magnitude 6.7 occurred around 23:11 hours at 182km South of Taipei, Taiwan according to National Center for Seismology.

The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center reported there is no tsunami threat to Hawaii after a 6.7 magnitude earthquake occurred in the vicinity of Taiwan.

The 6.7 magnitude earthquake occurred at 1:41 a.m. with a depth of 15 kilometers near Taiwan.

“No destructive tsunami threat exists based on available data. This is for information purposes only and there is no tsunami threat to the Philippines from this earthquake,” the PHIVOLCS posted.

The 6.6 magnitude earthquake, Reuters reported, occurred near the city of Taitung and that there were no immediate reports of damage.

But the earthquake shook buildings in the capital, Taipei. The quake had a depth of 30.6 km (19 miles).
