Guwahati, Oct 11: Australia’s cricket squad suffered a scare after a stone was thrown at their bus on its return to a city hotel from the Barsapara Cricket Stadium here.

The incident took place on Tuesday night after Australia defeated India by eight wickets in the second Twenty20 International (T20I).

“Pretty scary having a rock thrown through the team bus window on the way back to the hotel!!” Australian batsman Aaron Finch wrote on Twitter, posting a picture of the broken window of the bus.

It looks like the result of an Indian fan’s rage who couldn’t face the home team being outclassed by the Kangaroos at a venue, which hosted a cricket match for the first time. No one was, however, injured.

Finch has been sharing tweets since his arrival in India and even praised the Ranchi crowd after Australia faced defeat in the opening T20I encounter.

While neither the Indian cricketers in the current T20 squad nor the Indian board have said anything about the incident, Ravichandran Ashwin tweeted about the incident on Wednesday.

“We’re a country that treats our guests with great respect and hospitality. The stone thrown at the Aussie team bus shows us in bad light, let’s all act more responsibly. A vast majority of us are capable of that,” said Ashwin.

Former cricketer and commentator Aakash Chopra along with Harsha Bhogle and Ayaz Memon also condemned the attack.

Australia also witnessed a similar incident during their tour of Bangladesh last month.

The Barsapara Stadium hosted its first international match on Tuesday.
