Srinagar, Oct 1 : A Special Police Officer (SPO) who decamped with eight AK-47 rifles including the licensed pistol of the legislator where he was deployed on the guard duty last week in Srinagar , has joined the Hizbul Mujahideen terror outfit.
Police has revealed that Pictures of SPO Adil Bashir posing with an AK-47 rifle alongside Hizbul commander Zeenat-ul-Islam went viral on social media on Monday.
SPO Adil Bashir was deployed on the guard duty of a People’s Democratic Party MLA Aijaz Ahmad Mir and he fled with eight AK-47 rifles including the licensed pistol of the legislator from his official residence in Srinagar on Friday.
The police said that they have identified the civilian with whose help Bashir, a resident of Shopian district, managed to flee with seven AK-47 Rifles and a pistol on September 28 from the official residence of MLA Aijaz Mir in Srinagar’s Jawahar Nagar area.
The MLA was in Jammu when the incident occurred.
The police have detained 10 of the legislator’s personal security guards for questioning.
Now police is suspecting a major conspiracy behind this incident and therefore a reward of Rs. 2 lakh has also been announced for information on the special police officer.
The legislator’s residence at Jawahar Nagar in Srinagar, where most legislators and government officials live and is considered to be one of the high security zones in Srinagar.
This incident comes after three special police officers of Jammu and Kashmir were killed by suspected Hizbul Mujahideen terrorists in Shopian district on September 21.
The terrorists have allegedly warned the policemen and asked them to resign.
