After the address of President Ramnath Kovind to a joint assembly of both the Houses, the Congress said on Thursday that the government failed to fulfill the promises in the last five years, and the the Narendra Modi government will now have to fulfill its old promises in its second tenure.
Senior party leader and Rajya Sabha MP Kapil Sibal while talking to reporters at the Parliament House premises said, ” Many things have been promised once again. There were many promises made in 2014 too. But what happened? Governance does not mean making promises only. The country moves forward when there is a strong intent and true dedication”.
He said, “The priority should be to eradicate poverty. Promises are fine but there should be intent to fulfill them. We would like the government to fulfill the promises made in the past five years. The promises of the last five years have not been fulfilled till date. ” Sibal also said,” Now they are talking about one nation, one tax. However, we were already saying that there should be a uniformity regarding GST and there should be only one rate. But they did not listen to us. “
