New Delhi, Dec 1 : After US President Donald Trump declined India’s invitation to be the Chief Guest at the Republic Day celebrations in New Delhi next year,South African President Cyril Ramaphosa on Saturday accepted Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s invitation to be the Chief Guest for India’s 69th Republic Day celebrations in 2019.
According to the media reports,the confirmation has come when Modi met Ramaphosa on the sidelines of the G20 Summit being held in Argentina’s capital Buenos Aires.
India’s External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Ravish Kumar tweeted, “150 years of Mahatma & 100 years of Madiba!”. Kumar was referring to the occasion on July 18 this year when India marked 100 years since the birth of Nelson Mandela, popularly known as Madiba. Mandela passed away in 2013 at the age of 95.
