Delhi, June 18 : The Congress Parliamentary Strategy Group meeting is being held at UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi’s residence on Tuesday to discuss the party’s strategy in Parliament during the Budget Session.
Congress MP Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury in Delhi said, ” Ghulam Nabi Azad ji briefed everyone about the discussions that took place in the all-party meeting. We discussed key issues and will also hold meetings with the opposition parties. No discussions on name of leader of opposition. ”
Sonia Gandhi has also been given the task to select the leader of Congress in the Lok Sabha.Congress is the largest party in opposition, although it fell short of majority by two seats to get Leader of the Opposition post in the Lok Sabha.The Congress party will play a key role to provide a strong opposition on the floor of the House.
The Congress leaders are set to discuss the party’s stand on issues like ‘one nation, one election’, and triple talaq among others.
The party would also use the session to chalk out common agenda with like-minded parties.
On Monday, senior Congress leader and Rajya Sabha MP Anand Sharma had given a sense of party’s line — the government should end the ordinance culture and respect parliamentary process, important bills should be sent to Parliamentary Committees and then discussed in the house too, before being passed as laws.
A report published by the Sunday Guardian stated the Gandhi scion decided to resign from the post of president after his own team deceived him and made him believe that the party will be securing somewhere between 164 and 184 seats in the 2019 Lok Sabha election.
Congress leaders AK Antony, Jairam Ramesh, Ghulam Nabi Azad, Anand Sharma, P Chidambaram, Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury and K Suresh are attending the meeting of Congress Parliamentary Strategy Group which is being chaired by UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi at her residence in New Delhi.
