Sonia Gandhi chairs Congress meet ahead of Winter session

New Delhi, Nov 15, 2016: Congress President Sonia Gandhi on Tuesday chaired a meeting at 10, Janpath here to discuss the strategy ahead of the winter session of the Parliament which is set to begin on Wednesday.

Congress would raise the demonetisation issue under rules 56 and 193 during the parliament winter session to corner the government.

It will also oppose the Goods and Services Tax (GST) if four slabs of taxation up to 28 per cent are introduced.

Meanwhile, deputy leader of the opposition in the Rajya Sabha Anand Sharma has already given a notice for the suspension of business under rule 267 of the Rajya Sabha for a discussion on the same issue.

On the other hand, leader of the opposition in the Rajya Sabha Ghulam Nabi Azad has given a notice under rule 267 for discussion on the issue of Kashmir unrest.

After skipping the Congress Working Committee meet on November 7, due to health reasons, Sonia Gandhi chaired Tuesday’s meet attended by party Vice President Rahul Gandhi and other senior Congress leaders.
