Sonia calls Uri attack a ‘cowardly’ act


New Delhi, Sep 18, 2016: Congress President Sonia Gandhi on Sunday has expressed shock and deep distress over the martyrdom of Indian soldiers in the dastardly terrorist attack in Jammu and Kashmir’s Uri which left 17 jawans dead as she described the incident as cowardly” attack.

Gandhi deplored “the affront on our national conscience” and hoped that “the forces behind (the attackers) will be severely dealt with and brought to book”.

Heavily-armed militants attacked the camp at Uri early in the morning, killing 17 soldiers and wounding several others. Security forces shot dead all four attackers.

In the wake to review the situation of unrest in Jammu and Kashmir, Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh on Sunday postponed his visit to the US and Russia and asked officials to closely monitor the situation in the state after the terror attack in Uri earlier in the day.
