New Delhi, June 10 : After a nod from Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Textiles Minister Smriti Irani has been now dropped from the special invitee list of country’s premier policy-making body Niti Aayoog.
Stripping Smriti Irani from the status of special invitee assumes much significance at this juncture as the fourth meeting of the Niti Aayog’s Governing Council is to be held on June 16 under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Narendra Modi,where plans will be discussed for celebrations to mark the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi and deliberate on the development agenda for ‘New India 2022.
In an official communique, dated 7th June, it is noted that Smriti Irani is no longer part of the list of invitees.The list was made after approval from PM Narendra Modi.
HRD Minister Prakash Javadekar has replaced Smriti Irani with Senior BJP leader and Minister of State for Planning Rao Inderjit Singh.
Smriti Irani was inducted to NITI Aayog when she was the HRD Minister.
Irani has been a controversial minister and she was shunted out of the prestigious I&B Ministry after as Information and Broadcasting minister, Irani on April 3,had to rescind an order amending PIB accreditation guidelines for combating fake news, following an intervention by the Prime Minister’s Office, in face of widespread criticism by senior journalists and Opposition parties.
