Shimla, April 18: A massive fire broke out in Kaishani village near Shimla in the early hours of Wednesday, gutting at least 40 houses in the area and property worth lakhs of rupees.

The fire reportedly broke out when the occupants were asleep. However, no casualties have been reported.
“There are reports of 40 houses, mostly wooden, being destroyed in the fire in Kaishani village,” Sub Divisional Magistrate B.R. Sharma told news agency IANS.
Rescuers reached the spot, 135 km from Shimla, and evacuated the villagers. The cause of the fire is not known.
This is the second major incident of fire in areas around Shimla in two days. On Tuesday, a two-storied residential building caught fire and was completely destroyed before fire department officials could douse the flames.
