Thiruvananthapuram, Dec 10: Senior Congress leader Shashi Tharoor on Monday filed a criminal complaint against Union Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad in Thiruvananthapuram court for allegedly making defamatory statements against him.
“He accused me of being involved in a murder case. So I sent him a legal notice to withdraw his comments but he took a defiant stand. I tried to bite my tongue but there comes a time when the straw breaks camel’s back”, the Thiruvananthapuram MP told media.
The development comes nearly two months after Tharoor’s lawyer sent a notice to the Union Minister over the video shared by him on his Twitter handle on October 28 where the latter stated, “Shashi Tharoor who is accused in a murder case has attempted to disrespect Lord Shiva”.
On October 31, the Congress leader had also sought an apology from Prasad within 48 hours, warned of legal action.
“My legal notice to @rsprasad about his false, malicious & defamatory statements against me, which he has still not retracted”, he had tweeted.
When India’s Law Minister falsely invents a murder case against a political opponent, what hope for justice and democracy?, Tharoor had asked.
