Central Government’s proposal to hike the salary of MPs has come under criticism by many opposition parties and leaders.
The Congress MP, Shashi Tharoor on Friday said that the decision of an automatic increase in the salary of MPs after every five years is ridiculously inadequate.
“MP salaries are ridiculously inadequate. It would be hypocritical to criticize a salary increase unless you can come up with a formula for doing all that an MP is expected to do within this amount,” the Thiruvananthapuram MP said in a detailed Facebook post.
Whereas the Trinamool Congress MP Derek O’Brien on Friday also told media that they will oppose the salary hike of MPs.
“Trinamool Congress opposes the proposed salary hike of MPs. We feel that MPs are paid enough,” O’Brien said. The decision to oppose the proposal, he said, was taken after a conference call on Friday morning with Trinamool supremo Mamata Banerjee in which the party’s Lok Sabha leader Sudip Bandopadhyay also participated.
