New Delhi, Sep 18: Shambhulal Regar, the man accused of hacking and burning to death a Muslim man named ‘ Mohammed Afrazul’ alleging love jihad in Rajasthan’s Rajsamand, is likely to contest the 2019 Lok Sabha elections from Agra.

The Uttar Pradesh Navnirman Sena (UPNS) has offered Regar a ticket and has also claimed that he has accepted the offer and may fight Lok Sabha polls from Agra.

Speaking to News18, Amit Jani, National President of the Uttar Pradesh Navnirman Sena, said that Regar will contest the elections from Jodhpur jail. “The Uttar Pradesh Navnirman Sena has decided that for the Agra Lok Sabha seat, the party’s candidate will be Shambhulal Regar. He will contest the election from inside Jodhpur jail, where he is currently lodged,” he said.

Last year in December, Regar had hacked and burnt to death a Muslim man alive allegedly for committing ‘love jihad’ in Rajsamand. Since a video of the act went viral and justifying the incident, Regar had, in a video message, said that he burnt the Muslim man, identified as Mohammed Afrazul, to “save a girl from love jihad“. “Jihadists, leave our country or you will meet the same fate,” he later said in the video.
