New Delhi, Dec 11: Former finance secretary and current member of the finance commission Shaktikanta Das has been appointed as the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) Governor on Tuesday.
The development comes a day after Urjit Patel resigned as RBI Governor with immediate effect.
Patel, who is the first governor since 1990 to quit before his term ended, in a brief statement, he cited “personal reasons” for the decision.
“The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has approved the appointment of Shaktikanta Das, former Secretary, Department of Economic Affairs, as Governor of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) for a period of three years,” an official order said.
Das is a 1980 batch IAS officer from Tamil Nadu cadre.
