Self-styled godman Rampal gets life imprisonment


New Delhi, Oct 16: A Hisar Court on Tuesday sentenced life imprisonment to Self-styled godman Rampal in connection with the murder of four women and a child in the year 2014. 

Apart from Rampal, fourteen others were also awarded life imprisonment.

The bench of Additional District and Sessions Judge D.R. Chalia awarded the life sentence to them.

Last Thursday, Self-styled godman and others were found guilty under Sections 302 (murder), 343 (wrongful confinement) and 120 B (conspiracy) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

The 15 convicts have been asked to pay a fine of Rs 2.05 lakh each in addition to the jail term,  Rampal’s lawyer told The Indian Express. 

The quantum of sentence in another case, which relates to the death of a woman, will be pronounced on Wednesday. In this case, Rampal and 13 others are convicted.

The two murder cases against him relate to the murder of six people during violent clashes between his supporters and Haryana Police at his Satlok Ashram near Barwala town in Hisar district, around 245 km from the state capital.

Hisar Additional District and Sessions Judge D R Chaliya had pronounced the verdict after nearly four-year-long trial.

Since their arrest in November 2014, Rampal and his followers have been lodged in the jail.
