Security beefed up at Mumbai, Hyderabad airports after hijack threat


Mumbai 16 April: The Security also tightened at Mumbai and Hyderabad airports after Mumbai Police Commissioner received an anonymous letter threatening blasts and also hinting a hijack.

According to Times of India, airport security agencies received a tip-off that a team of 23 people would make simultaneous attempts to hijack aircraft departing from the three airports.

After which the airports were put on high alert.

The decision was taken at an Airport Security Committee meeting on Saturday, reported TOI. “An email was sent by a woman who overheard 6 boys discussing a plan to simultaneously carry out hijacks from Mumbai, Chennai and Hyderabad airports,” said a TOI source. “A total of 23 people will be involved in the 3 hijacks which has been planned for Sunday.”

Director-General CISF informed that the security has been hiked in the Mumbai, Chennai and Hyderabad airports.
