Bihar, 7 Oct: The Supreme Court stayed the Patna High Court judgement which struck down liquor ban in Bihar.
A bench chaired by Justice Dipak Misra and Justice Uday Umesh Lalit gave the respondents six weeks time to respond, and gave the Bihar government four weeks time to file its rejoinder.
The next hearing of the matter is slated to be held after 10 weeks.
Nitish Kumar-led Bihar government has challenged the high court ruling of September 30, which had quashed the notification banning consumption and sale of liquor in the state.
However, after the law was sidelined, the state government came out with a new law banning the sale and consumption of liquor which was notified on the Gandhi Jayanti day on October 2.
