Patna, July 27: NDA constituent Lok Janshakti Party (LJP) on Friday threatened to launch a protest if an ordinance to strengthen the SC-ST Act was not promulgated and the Chairman of the National Green Tribunal was not dismissed by August 9.
Addressing a press conference, Chirag Paswan, LGP leader and son of Union Minister Ram Vilas Paswan, said “We wanted the centre to bring an ordinance about SC/ST Act. But it couldn’t be done now so we’ve asked the union government to reintroduce it as a bill in the Parliament on Aug 7 & restore the previous law, as Dalit protests on Aug 9 could be more aggressive than April 2 protests”.
“I have complete faith in the government and the utmost faith in our Prime Minister. He says that from ‘if but to comma full stop’, nothing will be changed in the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act. It increases our faith in him”, he added.
Paswan also sought removal of the National Green Tribunal Chairman.
“We have been asking the government to restore the provisions of the Act as soon as possible as people are sad and disappointed with the SC order. Also, SC judge Goel’s appointment as NGT Chairman is being seen as an award,” he asserted.
The Chairman of the LJP Parliamentary Board also sought the introduction of reservation in private sector jobs and placing reservation in the 9th schedule of the Constitution to counter the Opposition charge that the centre was bent on ending quotas in education and government service.
