SC rejects plea on pet coke, use of furnace oil in NCR

New Delhi, Nov 22: The Supreme Court on Wednesday dismissed the plea for the recall of its order banning the usage of pet coke and furnace oil by industries in the National Capital Region (NCR).

Apart from this, the court also rejected the National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC)’s plea seeking extension of time for any other substitute.

Rejecting the plea by some of NCR based industries and their associations, the bench of Justice Madan B. Lokur and Justice Deepak Misra told the petitioners that the government itself has banned the use of polluting fuel in Haryana, Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan.

The apex court in its order in October, had banned the use of pet-coke and furnace oil in the national capital and nearby areas. However, the Centre in pursuance to the court order issued a notification banning the use of polluting fuel across Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan and Haryana.
