New Delhi, May 23, 2017: An Army Major Leetul Gogoi, who had tied a Kashmiri man in front of a jeep as a human shield to avoid stone pelting on security forces on Tuesday comes up with his side of the story.
In an interview with news channel, Gogoi said “I saved lives without firing a bullet or beating anyone. I have done no wrong. I was true to my duty, I was not afraid. Stones were pelted from all sides but we ensured smooth conduct of by-polls.”
However, he maintained that he did the right thing and he believes this incident will not change his outlook towards life.
“If your intentions are right nothing will happen to you. Be positive, work hard and things will be fine,” he added.
Major Gogoi of the 53 Rashtriya Rifles was in the highlights after a video, shot during the Srinagar Lok Sabha by-poll and posted on social media showed a young man tied to the front of an Indian Army vehicle as a human shield, being paraded in Jammu and Kashmir’s Budgam to “avoid” stone pelting on security forces.
Gogoi on Tuesday was awarded by Army Chief Gen Bipin Rawat for adopting such non-violent measure in order to save so many lives.
