‘Sanju’ beats Salman Khan’s Race 3, becomes biggest opener of 2018

New Delhi, June 30: The much-anticipated Sanjay Dutt biopic ‘Sanju’ has broken some records on the very first day.

The film has been receiving great reviews from critics as well as fans. On the first day of its release, the Ranbir Kapoor-starrer minted Rs. 34.75 cr on Friday. With this Sanju has beaten Salman Khan’s ‘Race 3’ to become the biggest opener of 2018. So far Race 3 was the highest opener of this year.

Moreover, it has become the ‘Brahmastra’ star’s biggest-opener till date.

Film critic Taran Adarsh said the movie is expected to enter the 100-crore club within three days.

“Non-holiday… Non-festival release… Yet, #Sanju packs a PHENOMENAL TOTAL on Day 1… Emerges the BIGGEST OPENER of 2018 [so far]… Also, Ranbir’s HIGHEST OPENER to date… Expected to cross Rs. 100 cr in 3 days, as per trends… Fri Rs. 34.75 cr. India biz.,” tweeted Adarsh.

Sanjay, who had made a rocking debut in Bollywood with “Rocky” in 1981, put his personal life in jeopardy through drug addiction, and his life took a turn for the worse when he was arrested for illegal possession of weapons and was convicted.

Rajkumar Hirani has brought the story of his life on the silver screen with “Sanju”, in which Ranbir is seen as Sanjay Dutt, with Manisha Koirala, Paresh Rawal, Dia Mirza, Sonam Kapoor, Vicky Kaushal, Jim Sarbh and Anushka Sharma playing pivotal roles.
