Sanjay Leela Bhansali manhandled on ‘Padmavati’ set, Bollywood demands action


Mumbai, Jan 28, 2017: After the members of the Rajput Karni Sena group, stormed the film sets of ‘Padmavati’ and manhandled filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali in Jaipur on Friday, the Bollywood industry comes forward to condemned the attack and demanded action against protesters.

Celebrities, including filmmakers Karan Johar, Farhan Akhtar, Priyanka Chopra, Ram Gopal Verma, Anurag Kashyap and Madhur Bhandarkar along with actors Hrithik Roshan and Sonam Kapoor have expressed their anger on the social networking site.

As news of the attack broke, celebrities took to social media to express their anger and shock.

Bhansali was assaulted and the sets of his upcoming film “Padmavati” in Jaipur’s Mehrangarh Fort were vandalised by protesters who alleged that the film shows a much-celebrated Rajput queen in poor light.

The protesters also misbehaved with the crew and criticised the famed director for “distorting” history. They damaged cameras and other equipment, forcing Bhansali to stop shooting.

Th protesters alleged that the film has love scenes between Queen Padmini and ruler Alauddin Khilji, played by actors Deepika Padukone and Ranveer Singh.

The Karni Sena claims that Padmini was a proud queen known for taking her own life rather than submit to Alauddin Khilji, the emperor who attacked the Chittorgarh Fort.
