The newly elected MLA from Vadgam of Gujarat, Jignesh Mevani on Friday denied charges of making a provocative speech in Maharashtra.
Clarifying his position the leader said, “Not even a single word of my speech was inflammatory, I am just being targeted. No part of my speech was provocative or inflammatory.”
Jignesh was responding to an FIR registered against him for his alleged “provocative” speeches during an event in Pune on December 31.
The leader accused the BJP government and RSS of tarnishing his image. Addressing media Jignesh said,”Members of Sangh Parivar & BJP made a childish attempt to tarnish my image & target me, it is an after effect of the Gujarat results & it is also because they have a sense of fear about 2019.”
He also asked Prime Minister Narendra Modi to clear his stand on the recent violence in Maharashtra.
The Pune police on Thursday registered a criminal case against Jignesh Mevani and Umar Khalid under section 153(A), 505 & 117 at Vishrambaug Police Station for creating communal disharmony through their provocative speeches at Shaniwarwada in Pune on December 31.
