RVS Mani lying, wants to weaken case, says Satish Verma on Ishrat Jahan case


Former Special Investigative Team (SIT) president Satish Verma on Thursday denies all allegations levelled by Former Under Secretary RVS Mani in the ongoing controversy around the Ishrat Jahan encounter and termed them ‘baseless’. Questioning the motive of RVS Mani, who alleged that he was tortured and forced by Satish Verma and CBI officers to sign the second affidavit in the Ishrat case, former SIT chief said Mani is trying to weaken the case for interested political parties.

Defending then UPA government’s decision of filing revised affidavit in Ishrat Jahan case, Satish Verma said that the second affidavits was rightfully necessitated.

In a major revelation, former under secretary for internal security at the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) R.V.S. Mani said on Wednesday that he had filed the first affidavit based on facts in the Ishrat Jahan case, adding that he does not know the cause of the second one being filed. He also alleged Satish Verma was engineering evidence against Gujarat cops in the case and tortured him to sign the second affidavit filed by then UPA government.
