Rs 4 crore seized in new currency notes from Bengaluru

Bengaluru, 2 Dec: In a yet another income tax raid, IT officials seized as much as Rs 4 crore in new currency notes from Bengaluru Duo.

Huge stacks of Rs 2000 notes have been seized. The cash amounts to over Rs crore. The counting of the seized currency is still underway. The seizure amount in the new currency is the highest till yet.

The I-T department is monitoring the entry operators and bankers are under the scanner.

The department has also reportedly recovered a number of identity cards of various individuals from the searched premises which could have been used to illegally change the old currency with new ones.

In Hawala raids yesterday Rs 1 lakh was recovered from the premises of a doctor in the West Bengal. Around 40 hawala raids were conducted yesterday and more than 1.2 crore were recovered from different places.

The sleuths of the department seized over Rs 4 crore in new currency, mostly in denomination of Rs 2000, some notes of Rs 100, demonetized notes of Rs 500 and a few gold biscuits, they said.
