Rose Valley Scam: Amid TMC MP’s arrest, BJP office attacked

Jan 3: Trinamool Congress Lok Sabha MP Sudip Bandyopadhyay on Tuesday was arrested by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) for his alleged involvement in Rose Valley group chit fund scam. Amid this and Mamata’s yawp of it being a “political vendetta”, 15 people were injured as her supporters attacked the BJP office.

The BJP said 15 of its activists were injured. A few bled from the head as they spoke to the media.

The scam is worth Rs 15,000 Cr (approx). Bandyopadhyay was arrested at CBI office where he went for questioning.

“I have come to clarify my position on whatever questions they have,” he had said before he went inside for questioning.

Reacting to this, Trinamool Congress Chief Mamata Banerjee labelled the arrests as “political vendetta” by the Centre and announced nationwide protests against the Modi government’s “vindictive attitude”.

“We strongly condemn the politically vindictive attitude of Modi and Amit Shah. They have arrested our Parliamentary Party leader Sudip Bandyopadhyay. He is a veteran politician and senior leader of our party.

“It is all because of our fight against NoteBandi (note ban). We are and will be with the people. Nothing can stop us from being with the people and we will continue with our protest against NoteBandi,” she added.

Meanwhile, CPI (M) leader Md Salim, “The arrest is long delayed but I welcome CBI’s decision to arrest Sudip. This investigation must reach to Mamata’s doorstep. She launched a decibel campaign because she knew they were going to be arrested. There is no political vendetta.”

Earlier on December 30, TMC MP Tapas Pal was also arrested by the CBI for his involvement in the same scam.
