India vs west indies

Guwahati, Oct 21 : Opener Rohit Sharma and skipper Virat Kohli scored blistering centuries to help India thrash the West Indies by eight wickets in the first One-Day International match here on Sunday.

India dominated with the bat through out the innings as Rohit remained unbeaten on 152 while Virat was dismissed for 140. On the other hand, West Indian bowlers struggled with the line and failed to take wickets.

Chasing a challenging score of 322, India lost Shikhar Dhawan with just 10 runs on the board. Dhawan (4) was clean bowled by Oshane Thomas in the second over of the innings.

But after that Rohit and Virat joined hands and hammered the West Indian bowlers all around the stadium. In the process, the duo completed their respective centuries.

Virat was stumped by wicket-keeper Shai Hope off Devendra Bishoo in the 33rd over when the score was 256, but by then India had almost grabbed the game.

The fall of wicket brought in Ambati Rayudu (22 not out) who played sensibly with Rohit and the duo guided India home comfortably.

Rohit played 117 balls and slammed 15 boundaries and eight sixes while Virat played 107 balls and slammed 21 boundaries and two sixes.

Earlier, a brilliant century by Shimron Hetmyer (106) and some useful contributions from Devendra Bishoo and Kemar Roach towards the end helped West Indies post 322/8.

Hetmyer played 78 balls and slammed six boundaries and as many sixes before he was dismissed by Ravindra Jadeja in the 39th over.

Chandrapaul Hemraj and Marlon Samuels were the only disappointments for the West Indies as all other batters contributed and helped their team to get past the 300 run mark in their allotted 50 overs.

Put in to bat, West Indies started the proceedings on a positive note but pacer Mohammad Shami dismissed opener Hemraj (9) in the fifth over. But Powell and Shai Hope (32) together forged a 65-run partnership for the second wicket and took West indies past the 80-run mark.

Just when things seemed good in the middle for the Windies, opener Powell (51) was dismissed by Khaleel Ahmed in the 15th over. In the next over, Samuels was also sent packing by Yuzvendra Chahal.

Hetmyer then arrived in the middle and stitched crucial partnerships with Rovman Powell and Jason Holder (38) before getting out in the 39th over.

Holder also played sensibly before getting out and towards the end, Bishoo and Roach forged a 44-run partnership for the ninth wicket to guide the West Indies to a challenging total.

For India Chahal took three wickets, while Shami and Jadeja took two wickets each.

Brief scores: 322/8 (Shimron Hetmyer 106, Kieran Powell 51; Yuzvendra Chahal 3/41) against India: 326/2 (Rohit Sharma 152 not out; Virat Kohl 140; Devendra Bishoo 1/72)

Rajasthan Royals got off to fantastic start in IPL 2020 by registering a comfortable 16-run win over the mighty Chennai Super Kings in Sharjah on Tuesday. Faf du Plessis hit a fifty but CSK’s required rate kept on climbing. Rahul Tewatia struck twice in one over to RR on top.

This happened after Chennai Super Kings lost openers Shane Watson and Murali Vijay in quick succession to RR spinners – Rahul Tetwatia and Shreyas Gopal – after getting off to a good start . Jofra Archer hit four sixes in the last over as RR ended up with 216 for 7.

Sam Curran got three quick wickets including that of Steve Smith holds as CSK came storming back against after Sanju Samson hit nine sixes but finally fell for 74 as Lungi Ngidi provided the breakthrough for CSK.

MS Dhoni speaks after CSK’s loss

MS Dhoni: “With 217 on the board, we needed a very good start which was not the case. Steve and Samson batted very well. Need to give credit to their bowlers. Once you’ve seen the first innings, you know the length to bowl. Their spinners did well to bowl away from the batsman.”

IPL 2020: Stuck to basics, didn’t try anything out of the box, says Bishnoi

Ravi Bishnoi

Dubai, Sep 21 : Kings XI Punjab leg-spinner Ravi Bishnoi, who made his Indian Premier League (IPL) debut on Sunday against Delhi Capitals, has revealed that he was more excited than nervous and all his focus was on to win the game for his side, which didn’t happen.

Kings XI came out on the wrong side of the result in their opening encounter of the 2020 IPL, losing to Delhi Capitals in the Super Over.

Bishnoi ended with impressive figures of 1/22 despite bowling all his overs outside the powerplay, and bowling to the likes of Shreyas Iyer and Rishabh Pant.

“I was a bit nervous in the beginning, but it was more excitement than nervousness for me to make my debut. I just wanted to do well and help my team win,” said Bishnoi to KXIP.in after the game.

The leggie bowled quicker through the air and kept a tight stump to stump line for the better part of his spell, not allowing the batsmen to free their arms. He was rewarded with the price scalp of Pant during his four-overs spell.

“Bowling against Pant, there was no set plan or strategy in place, I just kept sticking to the basics, didn’t try another out of the box. Just kept bowling how I normally would,” he said.

Kings XI will play their next match against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) on Thursday.

Preity Zinta demands new IPL rules after narrow KXIP loss

Actress and co-owner of Kings XI Punjab team Preity Zinta has expressed her disappointment over certain cricketing rules at the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL).

The decision irked several people, including KXIP co-owner Preity.

On Sunday, Kings XI Punjab lost to Delhi Capitals in the super exciting second match of the season. However, there was controversy at the very end. During the 19th over of KXIP’s innings, when Mayank Agarwal and Chris Jordan were batting, the square leg umpire decided a second run taken by Jordan was not complete. However, replays showed Jordan’s bat had crossed the line.

The decision irked several people, including KXIP co-owner Preity.

“I travelled enthusiastically during a pandemic, did 6 days of Quarantine and 5 covid tests with a smile but that one Short Run hit me hard. What’s the point of technology if it cannot be used? It’s time @BCCI introduces new rules. This cannot happen every year.

I’ve always believed in being graceful in a win or loss and in the spirit of the game but it’s also important to ask for policy changes that improve the game in the future for everyone. The past has happened and it’s imp to move on. So Looking ahead and being positive as always,” Preity tweeted.
