New Delhi, Sept 1: The Congress on Saturday attacked the Narendra Modi government over fuel price hike and devaluation of the Indian rupee.

Addressing the media, Congress leader Gaurav Vallabh said “Rupee at the all-time low, fuel price at the all-time high, this is the legacy of the Bharatiya Janata Party-led government at the centre.

“Rupee is in ICU. Today we see that it has crossed Rs 70 against the US Dollar $. In this issue, Modi govt. achieved that nobody could achieve. This will have a direct impact on Petrol, LPG and Current Account Deficit”.

Vallabh further added, “Petrol at Rs 85 is highest. This will have a cascading effect on the inflation in days to come”.

The Congress leader took a jibe at the Union Minister Arun Jaitley saying ” the centre has created a new portfolio called ‘Chief of Blog Writing’s, where Finance Minister instead of managing the Ministry he is busy writing blogs.

“But as Former Prime Minister Jahwar Lal Nehru used to say, facts always cut through the fog”, he asserted.

Continuing his attack, Vallabh also targeted the Modi government over 8.2 per cent growth in the Q1 of 2018-19.

“In Q1 of 2018-19 is compared to Q1 of 2017-18, which was an all-time low of 5.6%. It is merely a base impact”, he said adding the economic performance of Modi government has recorded a 4-year lowest GDP last year at 6.7%. IMF also lowered the estimates of Indian economy”.

The Congress leader further said when the central government says GDP is high, the real GDP is ‘Gas, Diesel, Petrol’ in which the price has peaked.
