Reliance AGM 2018: Mukesh Ambani launches JioGigafiber, JioPhone 2

New Delhi, July 5: Reliance Industries Limited (RIL) chairman and managing director (MD) Mukesh Ambani on Thursday unveiled ‘Jio GigaFiber’, its much-awaited fibre-to-the-home (FTTH) broadband services at its 41st annual general meeting (AGM) in Mumbai.

JioGigaFiber broadband will to come with a set-top box for TV. It will have enabled voice command feature for TV. Besides, it will also have a TV calling feature.

The Jio will launch fiber-to-home broadband in 1100 cities and will offer a bevy of home solution options.

Akash and Isha Ambani, the son and the daughter of Ambani, meanwhile, launched JioPhone 2 with advanced features. The new phone will be available for Rs 2,999 effective August 15. The phone will be available alongside the JioPhone already available in the market. JioPhone is a feature phone launched by Reliance Jio last year.

* YouTube, Facebook and WhatsApp will now be available on the Jiophone from August 15, and will work just as well as any Android or iOS experience, the company announced.

* Under Monsoon Hungama offer, users can now exchange feature phones with Jio Phone in Rs 501.

Reliance Jio has doubled its subscriber base to 215 million in 22 months, Mukesh Ambani stated. He further added that RIL has paid the highest GST and income tax among private players.

According to Ambani, the new commerce platform will be created through the integration of its offline retail arm and online technology platform. He said that the company saw its biggest growth opportunity “in creating a hybrid, online-to-offline new commerce platform”.
