New Delhi, Feb 9: Congress leader Renuka Chowdhury on Friday filed a privilege motion in the Rajya Sabha against Union Minister of State (MoS) for Home Affairs Kiren Rijiju over an objectionable video.

Reacting to a video shared by Rijiju, Chowdhary yesterday had said this is highly objectionable, and I am going to file for the privilege.

Rijiju on Thursday posted a video with the caption: “Despite such vexatious laugh by Renuka Chaudhary ji PM Narendra Modi ji didn’t get irritated”.

Prior to this on February 7, the Union Minister of State for Home had shared a video of hysterical laughter by mythological character ‘Surpanakha’ linking Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s comment on Congress leader Renuka Chowdhary in Rajya Sabha.

Rijiju later, clarified that he was “only referring to how PM didn’t get annoyed.”

The alliance in the Communist Party of India (Marxist) and Congress in West Bengal will join hands in the upcoming West Bengal Assembly Elections. According to the reports, the CPI(M) Central Committee will announce it officially on October 30 and 31.

A meeting was held by CPI(M) Central Committee on Sunday to discuss the assembly elections in Kerala and West Bengal. According to reports, preliminary discussions on the allies for the elections in the two states were carried out in the virtual meeting. The meeting also discussed the common political situation as the main agenda. Bihar elections were also considered at the meeting.

The CPI(M) and the Congress had allied in Bengal in the 2016 assembly polls, but it failed to evoke much impact. In the 2019 Lok Sabha polls, the proposed Congress-CPI(M) alliance fell apart after both the parties were unable to reach an agreement on the seat-sharing deal. Both the CPIM and Congress had contested the municipal elections from those seats in which they have already won.

Also, there are 19 CPI (ML), 6 each of CPI and CPM candidates, in the Bihar assembly election. CPI (ML) has a strong presence in Central Bihar constituencies of Bhojpur, Kaimur, Jahananad, Arwal, Gaya, and Aurangabad districts. Violent caste clashes between the upper caste landowning Bhumihar and Dalits had taken place in these districts in the 1970s and 80s.
