June 21, Wednesday : Former Indian captain Sunil Gavaskar lashed out at the players over ongoing conflicts within Indian team cricket which prompted coach Anil Kumble to resign from his post of coach.
Gavaskar said if players wanted a coach who allowed them to go on shopping then Anil Kumble was the wrong man. In an interview with NDTV he said “So you want softies. You want somebody to just tell you, ‘ok boys, don’t practice today because you guys are not feeling well, ok take a holiday, go shopping’.
Cricket legend described Kumble as a “Hard taskmaster” which was not liked by some of the Indian players.
He added “If somebody is a hard taskmaster and he has got you results like Anil Kumble has got over the last one year. If any of the players are complaining, I feel those players are the ones who should be left out of the team.”
Gavaskar’s remark comes a day after, when Indian Cricket team coach Kumble announced his resignation. Later he revealed that rift between him and Captain Kohli was the main reason behind his tough decision.
Kumble on twitter shared a statement citing all the reasons.
