RBI stops printing Rs 2,000 notes; Rs 200 note to introduce soon


New Delhi, July 26: The Reserve Bank of India has stopped printing higher value currency notes of Rs 2000, would not be bringing new notes of that denomination in the current fiscal year, according to a Livemint report on Tuesday.

The report, quoting sources said, “RBI’s printing press in Mysuru has also began printing of the new Rs 200 notes, which are expected to come into circulation in August”.

Earlier this month report came into the limelight stating that the RBI has reportedly already started printing the first batch of Rs 200 in June,

However, the existing Rs 2000 note will remain legal and it is not going out of circulation.
