Mumbai, July 3: Mumbai police have nabbed the suspect Girish Maheshwar from Ahmedabad in Gujarat, who issued rape threat to Congress spokesperson Priyanka Chaturvedi’s daughter on social media.
Chaturvedi filed a criminal complaint at the Goregaon police station in Mumbai against the troller, who has threatened her on Twitter with the rape of her 10-year-old daughter.
The incident sparked outrage on social media, with political leaders and netizens coming out in support of Chaturvedi.
Chaturvedi took to Twitter on Sunday and revealed that a troller, @GirishK1605, threatened to harm her daughter. The tweet by @GirishK1605 is no longer available.
Taking to Twitter, Chaturvedi wrote, “Despite having a picture of Lord Ram as his profile picture, the accused did not hesitate from making such remarks.”

Chaturvedi said, “We are trolled every day, but I got to know that someone is talking about my daughter on social media. I am filing a criminal complaint so that such people don’t get away.”
After the threat, the Congress leader took to her social media and brought the attention to the Mumbai Police’s notice. A complaint has been filed with the Mumbai Police, who have assured her prompt action.
“Yes, I plan to file an FIR. Also for kind attention of @MumbaiPolice , this fake quote with my pic is being shared on varioua FB pages with call for violence directed at me, I would request you to treat this as urgent,” Chaturvedi tweeted.
This threat was condemned by NCP leader Supriya Sule, who urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to take strict action in this case. She tweeted, “The troller/account holder posting such threats much be booked under the law and needs to be punished immediately.”
An irate Chaturvedi also wrote on Twitter that she will not let the perpetrator get away with this threat. “Many thanks to all those who have called and tweeted in support. Grateful. I am convinced that if there is evil in society there is even greater goodness. PS: If I am a fierce woman, let me assure you am a fiercer mom and will not let those who target my children get away with threats,” she tweeted.
