Ranveer Singh starrer Kapil Dev’s biopic ‘83’ gets new release date

Mumbai, July 6: After enthralling the audience with his blockbuster ‘Padmaavat’, Bollywood’s powerhouse actor Ranveer Singh is all set to star in Kabir Khan’s sports drama ‘ 83’.

The film which is slated to release on April 10, 2020, will see Ranveer Singh playing the role of star cricketer Kapil Dev.

A tweet from the official Twitter account of Reliance Entertainment on Thursday read: “A story that celebrates the triumph of India over the masters of world cricket is set to release on April 10, 2020.”

Ranveer had earlier told news agency IANS: “’83” is an “incredible underdog story. It’s an honour to be a part of one of the most incredible sporting stories of our nations history, the 1983 Cricket World Cup. We have the honour of telling this story and mortalising this on celluloid.”

The film will present the story of skipper Kapil Dev and the Indian national cricket team when they left the whole country energised after winning the 1983 World Cup in England.

This was the first time ever that any team apart from the West Indies won the world cup and it was the first time ever that an Indian team won any prominent tournament. It tracks the coming-of-age of not just a cricketing team, but of a young nation in the eyes of the world.

Earlier, the flick was slated to hit the big screens on August 30, 2019, which will now release on April 10, 2020.

Directed by Kabir Khan, the film is produced by Phantom Films, Vishnu Vardhan Induri of Vibri Media, Reliance Entertainment and Kabir Khan Films.
