New Delhi, Jan 9: The Rajya Sabha is discussing Quota Bill on Wednesday.

Union Minister Thawar Chand Gehlot introduced the 10% quota bill in the house.

Earlier in a day, the proceedings were disrupted twice as opposition objects to extension of House session.

Senior Congress leader Anand Sharma stated “The way the House proceedings were extended without the consent of the opposition parties was not right”.

“The situation now is such that there is no dialogue between the opposition and government”.

The government is foremost responsible if the House doesn’t function, he added.

Meanwhile, Union Minister Arun Jaitley said “the country expects the House to function. As per normal working days, we should have been working, on most of them the House stood adjourned. There is one extra day to consider legislations“.

Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs Vijay Goel told the Rajya Sabha “the government wants to extend the functioning of the House by a day as there are important bills to be passed”.

Proceedings in the Upper House of Parliament was extended by a day amid Centre’s attempt to push for the Reservation Bill and the Triple Talaq Bill.
