New Delhi, Jan 3: After witnessing stormy scenes over the Bhima-Koregaon Violence and triple talaq on Wednesday, Parliament proceedings adjourned for the day.
Amid of uproar, Union Law Minister, Ravi Shankar Prasad tabled the crucial Triple Talaq Bill in Rajya Sabha. But after ruckus, as the opposition wants the bill to be sent to the Select Committee for consideration, the speaker adjourned the house till Thrusday 11 am.
Lok Sabha also adjourned for the day over Bhima Koregaon violence.
However, earlier in a day MPs submitted adjournment motion notice in both the houses.
Samajwadi Party Naresh Agrawal, Congress MP Rajni Patil has given adjournment motion notice under rule 267 in Rajya Sabha.
Meanwhile, Congress’ Mallikarjun Kharge gives adjournment motion notice in Lok Sabha over the Bhima-Koregaon Violence under rule 56.
Jan Adhikar Party (JAP) leader and Madhepura MP Pappu Yadav give adjournment motion notice in Lok Sabha.
Ahead of proceedings, BJP held a parliamentary meeting and discussed the Constitution 123rd Amendment and triple talaq bill.
” In today’s parliamentary party meeting, we discussed two important bills. First, the Constitution 123rd Amendment Bill which will give constitutional status to OBC Commission and second, the bill to end triple talaq and protect the rights of Muslim women”, said Union Minister Ananth Kumar.
Continuing attack on the government over the violence against Dalits in Maharashtra, Congress’s Ghulam Nabi Azad said “Dalits are being assaulted, raped and murdered in all BJP ruled state. After BJP came in power you can see what’s happening all around”.
“Aag ko bujhaane ke bajaaye, bhadkaane ka kaam Mallikarjun Kharge, Rahul Gandhi aur Congress party kar rahi hai. Ise desh bardasht nahin karega”, he said.
Reacting to this, Union Minister Ananth Kumar says Congress is playing politics over the violence in Maharashtra.
Kharge said “Supreme Court judge should be appointed for inquiry in the Bhima Koregaon violence. PM should also speak on this, he can’t stay mum! He is a ‘mauni baba’ on such issues”.
“Whenever Dalits try to live respectfully, there are some people who try to harm them and interrupt such efforts. This is what happened in Bhima-Koregaon,” Kharge further asserted.
“Why did such an incident happen after years of peace at such an event? Recruitment of Dalits in the army was forbidden for thousands of years because they couldn’t carry weapons,” Kharge further said.
Congress’ Mallikarjun Kharge stated “that BJP-RSS intigated the violence. “Samaaj mein division karne ke liye, kattar Hindutvavaadi, jo wahan RSS ke log hain… iske peecha unka haath hai. Unhone ye kaam karwaya hai”.
Later, Bhima-Koregaon issue raised in the house.
MP Mulayam Singh Yadav raised the issue of Indian army soldiers, he said the government has not given any clear orders to the army, they have not been given a free hand. Our jawans are sacrificing their lives.
Rajya Sabha :
Rajya Sabha adjourned till Thursday 11 am after continued pandemonium over Triple Talaq Bill.
Congress’ Anand Sharma asserted that we stand for rights and dignity of women. It is unfair to say that they are the only ones responsible. Why haven’t you brought up the women reservation bill in the past three and a half years if you care about women’s rights?
The court had suspended Triple Talaq under Article 142. The court ‘beseeched’ all political parties and asked a law to be brought in, he added.
The Finance Minister said Triple Talaq Bill should not be referred to the select committee as the practice is already declared unconstitutional. Two of the judges held it unfair and used their extraordinary power to suspend it for six months.
Reacting to the resolution notice, Jaitely stated the house is taken by surprise that a motion is suddenly moved, it has not been submitted a day before. The motion has to be given at least 24 hours in advance.
There are 17 Rajya Sabha MPSs including Renuka Chowdhury, K Rahman Khan, Derek O Brien, Javed Ahmad, Majeed Memon, KK Ragesh, D Raja proposed to be members of Select Committee in the notice sent by Sharma.
In the meantime, Congress leader Anand Sharma moved a resolution to pass triple talaq bill to select committee.
After this, the Law Minister told the upper house that even after passage of Triple Talaq Bill in Lok Sabha the practice is continuing, a woman in Moradabad was given Triple Talaq over dowry.
Responding to this, Congress’ Ghulam Nabi Azad said We condemn the statement by the law minister, that we are raising the Bhima Koregaon violence issue to stall the triple talaq bill. We have been raising the issue of Dalit atrocities as this government is anti-Dalit.
Prasad said Bhima Koregaon violence issue is being raised deliberately so that the triple talaq bill can be stalled.
TMC and Congress demanded that the bill should be sent to the Select Committee for consideration.
