Rajnath Singh approves use of PAVA shells to control clashes in Kashmir

In a wake to control violent protesters, Home Rajnath Singh on Saturday approved the use of a chilli-based non-lethal munition PAVA shells ahead of an all-party delegation visit to Kashmir, said MHA sources.

The non-lethal PAVA shells can temporarily incapacitate the targets and render them immobile for several minutes.

The Home Minister-led all-party delegation is expected to meet political groups, trade union leaders, civil society members and individuals to discuss ways and means of restoring peace in the valley caught in an unending cycle of clashes triggered by the July 8 killing of Hizbul Mujahideen commander Burhan Wani.
