Rajeev Kumar can’t be arrested but should appear before CBI: Supreme Court

New Delhi, Feb 5: The Supreme Court on Tuesday directed Kolkata Police Commissioner Rajeev Kumar to appear before the Central Bureau of Investigation for questioning in the Saradha chit fund scam and ordered that no coercive steps, including arrest, would be taken against him for now.

We will direct the Police Commissioner to make himself available and fully cooperate, observed the Chief Justice of India.

“CJI bench ordered that Rajeev Kumar would make himself available in the light of prayer of the application of CBI to join the investigation, make himself available and cooperate fully. The SC pointed out that no coercive steps would be taken”, Senior Advocate and BJP leader Nalin Kohli told media.

“It has also been made clear by the apex court in its order that personal appearance, after the filing of replies, of concerned officers may be required&it’ll be communicated by Secy General of SC on February 19, if such appearance is required on 20th”, he added.

The Police Commissioner of Kolkata Rajeev Kumar will appear before the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in Shillong, Meghalaya as a neutral place.

Besides this, the apex court issued a notice to the Commissioner Of Police Kolkata, the DGP and the West Bengal government on contempt plea.
