Shillong, Feb 9: Kolkata Police Commissioner Rajeev Kumar appeared before the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in Shillong for the questioning in the Saradha chit fund scam.

Kumar arrived in Meghalaya capital Shillong yesterday, for the questioning as per Supreme Court orders that had also made it clear that Kumar cannot be arrested by the CBI.

He was accompanied by three West Bengal cadre IPS officers and his younger brother

The Apex Court on Tuesday (February 5) had directed the Kolkata Police Commissioner to make himself available and cooperate in the probe and also made it clear that no coercive steps, including arrest, would be taken against him by the CBI for now.

In an unprecedented turn of events on Sunday night (February 3), the CBI officials were detained by the Kolkata police after they reached Kumar’s residence at Loudon Street in connection with the probe. However, they were later released.

Following a tussle between the CBI and Kolkata Police, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee also staged a sit-in protest for more than 45 hours.
