Raisina Dialogue 2020: India’s conference kickstarts today

New Delhi, Jan 15: As the fifth edition of Raisina Dialogue kicked off in New Delhi on Tuesday with over 100 nations participating in the India’s annual global conference on geopolitics and geoeconomics.

The three-day event is jointly organised by the Ministry of External Affairs and the Observer Research Foundation.This move has been decided upon to emphasise on India’s commitment to gender equality.

On Tuesday former premiers of seven countries delivered speeches.

Former Danish prime minister Anders Fogh Rasmussen ,Former Canadian prime minister Stephen Harper, former South Korean prime minister Han Seung-soo, former Afghan president Hamid Karzai spoke good about PM Narendra Modi.

The three-day conclave aims to bring together 700 international participants, out of which 40 per cent of the speakers would be women.

This is the fifth edition of the Raisina Dialogue where global leaders in policy, business, media and civil society will be hosted in New Delhi to discuss cooperation on a wide range of pertinent international policy matters.

The event has been India’s contribution to discovering solutions, identify opportunities and provide stability to the international community that has witnessed two eventful decades.

Kovind, Modi, Rahul greet people on Eid

New Delhi, May 25 (IANS) President Ram Nath Kovind, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Monday greeted people on Eid-ul-Fitr.

The President tweeted: “Eid Mubarak! This festival is an expression of love, fraternity, peace, and harmony. Eid reaffirms our belief in sharing with and caring for the vulnerable and needy. Let us carry the spirit of giving (zakaat) on this Eid and follow social distancing norms to contain coronavirus spread.”

The Prime Minister said that the special occasion furthers the spirit of compassion.

“Eid Mubarak! Greetings on Eid-ul-Fitr. May this special occasion further the spirit of compassion, brotherhood and harmony. May everyone be healthy and prosperous,” Modi tweeted.

Rahul Gandhi also took to Twitter: “Eid Mubarak to each and every one of you.”

Eid is being celebrated in most part of the country on Monday, marking the end of the holy month of Ramadan.

On Sunday, prominent Muslim clerics in Delhi had appealed to people to celebrate Eid-ul-Fitr on Monday while adhering to social distancing and lockdown norms in view of the coronavirus outbreak.

Odisha reports 103 new corona cases

Bhubaneswar, May 25 (IANS) The total coronavirus cases in Odisha climbed to 1,438 as 103 new cases were detected in the eastern state on Monday.

The Health Department said that of these 103 cases, 96 were reported in quarantine centres and seven from local contacts.

Deogarh reported the highest 22 cases, followed by Kendrapara (15), Jagatsinghpur (10), Malkangiri (9), Bhadrak (8), Bolangir (8), Gajapati (6), Koraput (6), Balasore (5), Khurda (5) and Ganjam (4).

Jajpur, Kandhamal, Dhenkanal, Mayurbhanj, and Keonjhar reported one case each.

There are 881 active cases in Odisha, with 550 recoveries. Seven persons have died of the disease.

With the increase in the number of corona cases, the state government on Sunday changed its quarantine policy. People returning to villages will now have to undergo 14 days of institutional quarantine.

The people returning to cities will have to undergo 14 days of home quarantine.

COVID-19: Two more die in Agra, death toll now 33

Agra, May 25 (IANS) With two more deaths due to novel coronavirus, Agra’s death toll due to the disease has risen to 33, even as the city has recorded a steady decline in the number of new cases in the past 10 days.

Six new cases till late Sunday evening took the total tally to 857, of which 747 patients have recovered. The latest casualties due to coronavirus were reported on Sunday.

The number of samples taken for testing in the city has gone up to 12,027.

Meanwhile, the district administration has again allowed the use of mobile phones in isolation wards and Covid-19 hospitals following protests over the move, but only after recording details in a separate register.

District officials also said that the number of migrant workers wishing to travel back to their native states had now reduced to a trickle, and just a few hundred remained at the Agra ISBT to be transported out of the city.

In 10 days, more than 15,000 workers from other states have been ferried back.
