Panaji, Jan 29: Congress President Rahul Gandhi on Tuesday paid a surprise visit to the Goa Assembly on the first day of its three-day budget session.

Gandhi arrived at the Assembly precincts just after noon and went to the opposition lobby. He met the Congress legislators.

Rahul also paid a brief visit to ailing Manohar Parrikar, who has been unwell for past several months, at the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) in Panaji.

The meeting between Gandhi and Parrikar took place for about five minutes. Rahul inquired about the Parrikar’s health condition.

After the meeting, Rahul said that it was the personal visit and also wished for Parrikar’s speedy recovery.

The development came a day after Rahul Gandhi stepped up attack on PM Modi referring to an alleged audio tape, in which a Goa minister claimed that Parrikar had crucial Rafale deal files with him.

On Monday, Rahul Gandhi wrote on Twitter, “30 days since the Goa Audio Tapes on RAFALE were released. No FIR or enquiry ordered. No action against the Minister either! It’s obvious that the tapes are authentic & that Goa CM, Parrikar, is in possession of explosive RAFALE secrets, that give him power over the PM.”

Gandhi has been in Goa since Saturday on a private visit along with his mother and UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi.
