New Delhi, Aug 19, 2017: Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi has arrived in Gorakhpur and met with the families of children’s who died at the BRD Medical College and Hospital where the death toll has gone up to 71 since August 7.
He was accompanied by Senior party leader Ghulam Nabi Azad. The news was confirmed by Congress district unit president Sayed Jamal.
More than 70 children, many infants, died last week due to encephalitis and a reported shortage of oxygen supply at the Baba Raghav Das Medical College in Gorakhpur.
Rahul’s visit comes on the same day when Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanath too visited the city and to kick off the Swacch UP, Swasth UP (Clean UP, Healthy UP) campaign, Adityanath termed Rahul Gandhi a ‘yuvraj’ and former Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav ‘shehzaada’ and said their attempts to convert Gorakhpur into a picnic spot would be rebuffed by the people.
