Raipur, Aug 10: Congress President Rahul Gandhi today launched a scathing attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi saying he doesn’t utter a word when girls are raped. “What happened to women in last 4 years never happened in even 3000 years”, he added.

Addressing a gathering in Raipur, Gandhi said “PM doesn’t utter a word when girls are raped in UP&Bihar. It’s a question which arises not only in yours but also in the hearts of all women in India. What happened to women in last 4 yrs never happened in even 3000 years”.

“In BJP-ruled states, women are not safe. Atrocities against women have risen alarmingly”, he further asserted.

He made these remarks when the country is stunned with recent Muzaffarpur and Deoria shelter home incident.

On August 5, at least 24 girls were rescued from the shelter home after a 10-year-old girl complaint the police that they were being sexually abused.

Last month, in short-stay girls shelter home run by an NGO in Muzaffarpur district of Bihar, 34 minor girls were allegedly sexually assaulted.

In a recent incident of sexual assault at a shelter home, a differently-abled girl was allegedly raped in Madhya Pradesh’s Bhopal on Wednesday.

This year, several instances of sexual crime against minors and women have been reported from different states.

The Congress President also took potshots at the Prime Minister over hike in wages stating that “PM Modi made a woman in Chhattisgarh lie about doubling her income. This is BJP’s model. Lie and encourage others to lie”.

Gandhi, who was in Chhattisgarh inaugurated Rajiv Bhawan earlier in a day.

Besides this, he paid tribute to Congressmen who lost their lives in a Maoist attack in 2013.

New Delhi, Oct 17: The son of Former Union Minister and senior BJP leader Jaswant Singh, Manvendra Singh, who quit the Bharatiya Janata Party last month, joined the Congress on Wednesday.

“I met Rahul Gandhi in the morning today and he welcomed me into the Party. I have confidence that my supporters will continue to support me”, he told media.

Manvendra Singh had resigned from BJP on September 22.

Singh had announced the decision during “Swabhimaan Rally” in Pachpadra of Barmer district. He raised a slogan “Kamal Ka Phool, Badi Bhool” in the rally and said that he had been maintaining silence for the last four-and-a-half years obeying senior leaders of the party. “But, now I have lost all my patience.”

Speculation regarding his joining the Congress party was making rounds soon after he quit the ruling party.

However, he did not open his cards during or after the rally.

Manvendra is a sitting legislator from Sheo. His relationship with the BJP turned sour in 2014 when the party refused to give a ticket to his father and former Union Minister Jaswant Singh.

The latter participated in the elections as an independent candidate but witnessed a defeat to the BJP candidate Sonaram Chaudhary.

Kolkata, Oct 17 : Congress President Rahul Gandhi’s proposed visit to the city during Durga Puja has been cancelled due to his campaign schedule ahead of the elections in the five states, said a senior state party leader on Tuesday.

Gandhi was supposed to visit the city on Ashtami (the eight Lunar day) on Wednesday.

“His visit has been cancelled. The central election committee has convened a meeting for selection of candidates for the upcoming elections in five states,” party’s West Bengal unit President Somen Mitra said.

Last month, Mitra was made West Bengal Pradesh Congress Committee’s President replacing Adhir Ranajan Chowdhury who was bitterly anti-Trinamool Congress and pro-Left.

The Congress Chief, in a message, said, “I had wanted to be present in Kolkata to offer prayers to Maa Durga and to participate in the puja celebrations, in great city of joy, with all of you. Unfortunately, the upcoming state elections and crucial preparatory meetings for them, prevent me from travelling out of Delhi at this time.”

Gandhi regretted for not being able to visit the city but hoped to travel Kolkata soon.

Sabalgarh, Oct 16: Congress President Rahul Gandhi on Tuesday attacked the Shivraj Singh government over unemployment, crimes against women, corruption and farmers suicide in Madhya Pradesh.

Addressing the gathering, Gandhi said that “Healthcare and education are expensive and unaffordable. MP leads in unemployment, crimes against women, and farmers suicide. This is the reality of Madhya Pradesh”.

“The Corruption is rampant in Madhya Pradesh. There is a hierarchy of corruption that reaches to the Chief Minister”.

Speaking on Vyapam scam, he stated “In Madhya Pradesh, if you don’t have money you don’t get an education. This is the definition of Vyapam. Shivraj Chouhan, RSS organisation are all involved in Vyapam. 50 witnesses were murdered”.

The Congress President told people that the Chief Minister had announced 21000 schemes, but we do not make any false promises.

Within 10 days of forming the govt, Congress party will waive off farm loans, he claimed.

Gandhi said “we will make ‘Made in India’ a reality. We will establish a food processing plant in every district”.

“Everything I have promised has been implemented. I don’t want to tell you about my ‘Mann ki Baat’. I want to listen to people’s needs and fulfill that. This is the difference between them and us., he added.

The Congress leader took a jibe at Prime Minister Narendra Modi, saying “When PM Modi said “I’m not a Prime Minister, I’m a Chowkidar”, he meant he wanted to protect and serve 15-20 rich industrialists”.

Earlier in a day, Gandhi along with senior party leaders Jyotiraditya Scindia and Kamal Nath paid a visit to Gurudwara Data Bandi Chhor in Gwalior.

The Congress Chief, who was on a two-day visit to poll-bound Madhya Pradesh, offered prayers at the famous Peetambra Shaktipeeth in Datia on Monday.
