Congress President Rahul Gandhi on Saturday attacked the Centre for the economic slump in the country and described “GDP” as the “Gross Divisive Politics” of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Taking potshots at Modi-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government over a reduced GDP, Gandhi said in a tweet “FM Jaitley’s genius combines with Mr Modi’s Gross Divisive Politics (GDP) to give India”, along with a news report.

The growth in GDP during 2017-18 is anticipated at 6.5 percent, as compared to the growth rate of 7.1 percent in 2016-17, the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation revealed on Friday.

According to the released by the Central Statistics Office (CSO), Real GDP at constant (2011-12) prices in the year 2017-18 is likely to attain a level of Rs 129.85 lakh crore, as against the Provisional Estimate of GDP for the year 2016-17 of Rs 121.90 lakh crore, released on May 31, 2017.

Earlier, the country’s GDP growth for the second quarter of the current fiscal that ended on September 30 was grown by 6.3 percent — a three-year low of 5.7% GDP growth in the June quarter as implementation of goods and services tax (GST) and note ban took their toll.
