New Delhi, Dec 8: Prior to the Parliamentary session, Opposition leaders stage a protest on Thursday and Rahul Gandhi said that Demonetization is a foolish decision.
Rahul Gandhi on Thursday said that the Demonetization move has devastated poor, daily wage labourers, farmers. He also said that We want to have a discussion and we want a vote but it seems like that government doesn’t want the same.
“This is not a bold decision, it is a foolish decision which has been taken without any due consideration,” added Rahul.
Rahul asserted that Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s narrative has changed as earlier he said that Demonetization is against black money, then he said it was to minus terrorism, then counterfeit currency and later he talked about the cashless economy.
“Modi is running away, if he comes to the House for debate, we won’t let him run,” said Gandhi, adding that “He (PM Modi) is laughing, having a nice time while the people of the country are suffering.”
The idea behind cashless economy is that a few people must get maximum benefits from these transactions, this has damaged the nation.
The protest was held at Gandhi statue inside Parliament premises over the demonetization issue.
Earlier on Wednesday, BJP senior leader LK Advani expressed his severe disappointment over the working of Lok Sabha. He said that neither the Speaker nor the Parliamentary Affairs Minister was running the house.
To this, Congress Senior Leader Mallikarjun Kharge said that “I don’t know how much impact LK Advani’s statement had on govt, but we’ve been trying to carry on with the debate.”
“Earlier, PM asked for 5 days, then 5 weeks & now 50 days. This isn’t right as not even 50% of the situation got better in 1 month,” he added, taking a jibe on Narendra Modi.
Revolutionary Socialist Party’s N K Premachandran is also participating in the protest. He said that “entire Opposition staging a protest in front of Parliament to mark protest against sufferings caused due to Demonetization.”
Countering the opposition Union Minister Ananth Kumar said that “Opposition is staging protest only to garner media space, Govt is ready for discussion in the house.”
