New Delhi, March 6 : Arguing that enough evidence is avalable to prosecute Prime Minister, Congress President Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday demanded that an FIR should be filed against Narendra Modi over the Rafale jet deal.
Gandhi said that the “trail of corruption in the case” begins with PM Modi and that there was “enough proof to prosecute him”in the Rafale Scam.
“The trail of corruption begins and ends with him. That crucial Rafale files incriminating him are now reported ‘stolen’ by the government… is destruction of evidence and an obvious cover-up,” Gandhi tweeted, using the hashtag #FIRagainstCorruptModi.
The Supreme Court adjourned hearing the petitions seeking a review of its judgment on the government’s purchase of 36 Rafale jets from Dassault Aviation to 14 March.
Attorney General (AG) KK Venugopal had told the court that the documents published by the Hindu newspaper on the Rafale deal were not supposed to be brought in public domain and that they were ‘stolen’ from the Defence Ministry.
Advocate Prashant Bhushan, who is one of the petitioners against the Government of India in the case, accused the Centre of submitting false documents to the apex court
Bhushan’s accusation was based on a report which was published in The Hindu on 8 February. It claimed that the defence ministry in 2015 had objected to “parallel discussions” held by the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) during the negotiations for the purchase of 36 fighter jets from Dassault Aviation. The report was written by N Ram and is the chairman of The Hindu Publishing Group.
