Majitha (Punjab), January 27: Ahead of the assembly polls in Punjab, Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi started his 3-day election campaign from Majitha today.
Gandhi started his public address with a mega offensive against the Badal family in the state and announced Amarinder Singh as Punjab’s CM candidate.
State Congress President Capt. Amrinder Singh and Navjot Singh Sidhu joined Gandhi on stage. They will address joint public rallies in Majitha, Jalalabad and Lambi. Meanwhile Rahul would also visit Rampura Phul, Talwandi Sabo and Bathinda Urban.
Taking a sharp jibe at Punjab’s chief Minister Prakash Singh Badal, Rahul said the heart of a farmer is always happy to see Badal (Cloud) but in the state of Punjab, Badal (Punjab’s Chief Minister) doesn’t pour water and the farmers are in the state of disarray.
He further said, farmers in the State are upset, as the government is not looking after them. Badal family helped their dear and near ones, but not the common people of the state.
Punjab which is a land of five rivers, used to be “strength to the country” and has “helped the country to grow” but the corruption of Badals have affected growth in each industry lamented Gandhi.
Waging a war against drugs in Punjab, Rahul Gandhi promised a strict law against drugs and substance abuse. He reiterated I had said four years back how 70 % of youth of Punjab is being hurt by drugs and Badals made fun of me. But now whole Punjab is standing with me and saying what I said, said Gandhi.
Citing how busses in Punjab are overtaken by Badal’s, he said if you want to travel in Punjab you are bound to travel in Badal’s busses. Every industry and business in Punjab is run by monopoly of selected families.
Coming on to BJP and PM Narendra Modi, Gandhi said, Modiji claims to fight against corruption, then how can he support Akali Dal?Whole nation knows it(Akali Dal) has ruined Punjab.
Capt Amrinder Singh who is Chief Ministerial candidate of Congress is fighting against the current Chief Minister of the state, Prakash Singh Badal in Lambi while Deputy CM Sukhbir Singh Badal would be a strong competition from Jalalabad. However, Bhagwant Mann will be the candidate from AAP at Jalalabad. It will be a triangular contest among Congress, SAD-BJP and AAP across the state of Punjab.
