Lukhnow, January 29: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav and Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi on Sunday held their first joint press conference in Lucknow.
Rahul Gandhi hailed the historical alliance as the union of “Ganga-Yamuna.”Ek tarah se yahan Ganga-Yamuna ka milan ho raha hai, progress ki Saraswati isme se niklegi, said Gandhi.
Taking on PM Modi for politics of words, he said the alliance will act on three Ps — Progress, Prosperity, and Peace and fight the politics of anger, creating divide, and making false promises.
Gandhi said the alliance would “fight fascist forces” such as the Bharatiya Janata Party and its ideological parent, Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh.

Adding one more “P” to the Ps mentioned by Gandhi, Akhilesh Yadav said: “Let me add the fourth P. This will be People’s alliance.”
Asked if Priyanka Gandhi will campaign in the eletion, Gandhi told the media: “Priyanka has been of tremendous help to me and I have been to her. Whether she campaigns or not is her choice. She is an asset to Congress.”
Asked if Congress President Sonia Gandhi and Samajwadi Party patriarch Mulayam Singh Yadav will campaign in the assembly polls starting on February 11, Gandhi said: “Campaign strategy will not be divulged now.”
Talking about Bahujan Samajwadi Party chief Mayawati, the Congress leader said: “I personally respect Mayawatiji. BSP ruled the state and made a few mistakes but my respect is intact for her. There are a lot of differences between Mayawatiji and BJP. BJP spreads anger and make people fight. There is a threat to the nation from their (BJP) ideology. But there is no threat to the nation from Mayawati’s ideology. There is no comparison between the two.”
Talking about Akhilesh Yadav, Gandhi said: “He wanted to push the state towards development.”
Both leaders said their personal and political relations had got better after the alliance was forged to fight the Uttar Pradesh assembly election starting on February 11.
“The Congress-Samajwadi Party alliance will make Uttar Pradesh stronger,” Gandhi said.
Together, during the press conference, Rahul and Akhilesh also launched their slogans for political campaigns ahead of UP Elections – ‘UP ko ye saath pasand hai’. The two young leaders say they are confident on securing a majority in the Assembly.
“People of Uttar Pradesh will vote against those who made them stand in bank queues,” said Akhilesh Yadav.

Akhilesh said that Congress and Samajwadi Party are like two powerful wheels of the Cycle. And when cycle has hand and hand has cycle, the speed of the carrier is bound to be good one. He pitched for 300 plus seats and said UP is happy with alliance.
Asked why he had tied up with the Congress if his claims of work done in his five-year tenure were true, the 43-year-old Chief Minister said the new alliance was needed to “take ahead the good work”.
The press conference will be followed by a joint road show by SP and Congress in the state capital. The assembly elections in starts from February 11 and out of 403 assembly seats, Congress is contesting in 105 and SP in the rest of 298 seats.
