New Delhi, Sep 20: Congress president Rahul Gandhi today launched a scathing attack on the Narendra Modi government over the Rafale deal and said Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman must resign as her position is untenable.
Gandhi took social media to target Sitharaman whom he referred as Rafale Minister (RM) and said she has been “tasked with defending corruption”.
“The RM (Rafale Minister) tasked with defending corruption has been caught lying again. The former HAL Chief, T S Raju, has nailed her lie, that HAL didn’t have the capability to build the RAFALE. Her position is untenable and she must resign”, he tweeted.

His remark was in reaction to a report published in the Hindustan Times where former chief of Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) RS Raju was quoted as saying that the Rafale fighter jet could have been made in India.
Yesterday, a high-level Congress delegation met Comptroller and Auditor General of India (CAG) Rajiv Mehrishi with its demand for a probe into the Modi government ’s deal with France to purchase 36 Rafale fighter jets.
The delegation also submitted an eight-page memorandum to the CAG giving the history of the proposal to acquire fighter jets, the process for which began in 2007 during the UPA government.
In the recent past, the opposition party also held a series of press conferences on the issue, raising several questions on the deal made by the ruling government with France to acquire the fighter jets.
